In my Backyard Exhibition – Copenhagen Photo Festival
In 2021, I had my first photography exhibition – In my Backyard.
It began as a personal project: an invitation to pay closer attention to my everyday surroundings and document the immediate neighbourhood of my new home in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk. However, as the work developed, I realised it had the potential to become something larger if it incorporated the perspectives of other local photographers.
Greenland is home to an extraordinary community of photographers, so I reached out to some of my favourites in Nuuk and invited them to take part. The brief was simple: capture the urban beauty of the Greenlandic capital, with each photographer working within a “backyard” defined as the area within 300 metres of their front door.

The 2025 Copenhagen Photo Festival
Once the exhibition closed in Nuuk, I approached Det Grønlandske Hus, a cultural and information centre for Greenland in the heart of Copenhagen, to see if they would be interested in hosting it. They were enthusiastic from the outset, although it took a few years for the opportunity to come together.
The wait was well worth it.
Det Grønlandske Hus submitted the exhibition as part of the 2025 Copenhagen Photo Festival, where it was accepted into the official festival programme.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to travel to Copenhagen for the opening, but I gave a live introduction via Zoom for those attending. The exhibition ran from 12 June to 30 October 2025, and the venue staff told me it was very well received.
Below is the exhibition booklet, which includes a map showing the locations of each photographer’s “backyard” in Nuuk, along with a short statement from each photographer explaining why they selected the images featured in the exhibition.
Bringing this exhibition together was an incredibly rewarding experience, from developing the initial concept, to collaborating with the other photographers, installing it in Nuuk, and finally seeing it exhibited in Copenhagen.
